Content is why we visit sites. Static, “brochure ware” content is no longer enough to stimulate our interest. Content must be kept fresh and accurate.
Managing content so it stays fresh and consistent throughout a site can be an arduous task. Typically, an organization has a few general options:
-
Option A: In-house webmaster/web developer updates content
Although an option, this is not a solution we would recommend, in almost any scenario. An advanced web developer’s time is better spent writing code and developing applications than posting simple press releases and employment opportunities.
-
Option B: Maintenance agreement with a capable web partner
eMagine offers our clients maintenance plans in which a client will purchase a number of maintenance hours to be used over the course of the year. Updates are also done on an “on-call” basis, but maintenance plans offer the benefits immediate response and discounted rates.
-
Option C (recommended): Database-driven web site with Content Management System
Any good web site today (actually since about 1997) is built with an easy-to-use system for non-technical people to keep the site updated. Under this scenario, a company is provided with a password-protected area of the web site, in which content managers within the organization can update content, with no need for technical expertise or knowledge of HTML or other web programming languages.
Browser-Based WYSIWYG editor
To effectively empower all content contributors from a web browser anywhere, anytime, an editor needs to able to manipulate images, act as a word processor, insert hyperlinks, add tables, format font settings, and various other helpful tools that go along with editing content for the web. In addition, with our browser-based editor there are no client or administrator downloads or installations required to run the software.
