If you build it, most likely they’ll come. But let it get stale, and chances are they’ll never come back. Content is why we visit websites. Static, “brochure-ware” content is no longer enough to stimulate our interest. Content must be kept fresh, engaging, educational and accurate. Managing content so that it stays current and consistent throughout a site can be an arduous task. Typically, an organization has three basic options:
 | - Option A: In-house webmaster/web developer updates content
Technically it is an option, but this is not a solution we would recommend in almost any scenario. An advanced web developer’s time is better spent writing code and developing applications than posting simple press releases and employment opportunities. - Option B: Maintenance agreement with a capable Web consulting partner
eMagine offers clients a maintenance plan in which the client purchases an agreed number of maintenance hours to be used over the course of the year. Updates are also done on an “on-call” basis, but the maintenance plan provides the benefits of immediate response and discounted rates. - Option C (recommended): Database-driven website with a Content Management System (CMS)
Any good website today (in fact, since around 1997) is built with an easy-to-use system that enables non-technical people to keep the site updated. Under this scenario, the website is designed with a password-protected area in which various content managers within the client’s organization can update content with no need for technical expertise or knowledge of HTML or other Web programming languages.
eMagine's Ez-Edit™ Content Management System is designed to support Option C above. To effectively empower all content contributors from a web browser anywhere, anytime, a CMS editor needs to be able to manipulate images, act as a word processor, insert hyperlinks, add tables, format font settings, and provide various other helpful tools that accompany editing content for the Web. All of this is provided with our browser-based WYSIWYG editor; and in addition, there are no client or administrator downloads or installations required to run the software. Ez-Edit enables non-technical staff within your organization to take ownership of their department's Web content. Additional features of Ez-Edit enable... - dynamically updating the site's navigation system, site map and search feature
- creating multi-language websites
- workflow management: content only goes live once the requisite individuals have viewed, approved or provided feedback on changes
- administering multiple user groups within your organization, allowing various departments to take ownership of only “their” site content
- timed publishing: schedule your content updates to go live on specific dates/times
- archiving/recovering multiple versions of your content
- support for multiple platforms
